Hello! My name is Emma, I'm currently 15 years old.
When I was 11, back in 2017, when selection opportunities for the 2019 World Scout Jamboree in the United States came around, I was too young to apply. I told my mum, "I'm going to the next one and you can't stop me."
Fast forward to October 2021, aged 15, when I applied to attend the 25th World Scout Jamboree 2023 in South Korea. I attended the selection camp in Bathgate on the 27th-28th November.
Arriving to a camp with over 120 participants and not knowing anyone was terrified, but I was determined. I met three others girls and ended up sharing with a girl from Clackmannanshire who I had never met before.
Over the weekend we were split into four groups and completed team building activities, cooking, cleaning, campfires, we also had individual interviews and worked on a group logo.
The morning of the 28th we woke up to our tent and campsite coated in a gleaming white layer of snow. We threw snowballs, made snowmen, it was great.
After spending the morning shovelling the roads to allow the parents to drive in, it was time for a questionable lunch of hot dogs and super noodles, strange following the lovely Korean meal we had the night before (I shall post the recipe). After this we all gathered each others contact details then headed home.
Leaving that Sunday I was nervous yet excited. I hoped I had done enough to get in.
We were told we would get the results before Christmas, so I did not expect the results to come in as soon as they did.
On the 3rd of December 2021 and 16:34 I received an email with the subject line- "World Jamboree Selection outcome". I got all nervous and excited and quickly opened the attached document.
"Dear Emma,
Thank you for all your hard work at the recent Forth Region selection camp. I am pleased to be able to offer you a place in Unit 5 to attend the 25th World Scout Jamboree"
I could not believe my eyes. I shut the app, and opened it again. Yep, it definitely said I had a place, and was definitely under my name.
I flew downstairs, basically screamed that I got in and messaged everyone that I was going to South Korea.
Since that point I've been busy fundraising to reach the cost of £3945, not including additional costs.
I will be posting all about my journey, so keep up to date.
Thank You for your support!
